Planet Orange release the kind of groovy music that I challenge anyone to have a bad time to. So here we all are, on an intergalactic dance floor, somewhere in the cosmos, having an excellent time…
Space Expeditions is their third release, a four track VA release kicking off with some housey goodness from Kepler on A1.
A2 – by T Jacques – is the bouncy, shuffly (and wonderfully-named) Spruce Caboose.
El Hombre (B1) is lovely, spacey, acid-tinged tech house tune, with trippy sounds floating down behind the beats, this one by label owner Pete Melba.
B2, from Accented Measures, Adrift in Space, conjurs up exactly that, with effects-skewed, spoken vocals (something I love in a tune) and bleepy noises. Meanwhile, the beats are still strong. I definitely feel like I’m cruising through space with purpose.
All the Planet Orange EPs have each provided me with four tracks that I will play in sets. This isn’t the case with most records. Planet Orange put the kind of music out that makes you want to get on the dancefloor. The point was proven beautifully last summer in the Distrikt courtyard when I played Midge Thompson’s ‘The Big Cheese’ (from 002 – Ridge Tackle) and a load of people got up. This one is in the stack I’ve been playing, by my decks, and will be in my bag this weekend…
